This house is in one of LA’s verdant canyons, the views are tree canopies and a warm tropical walled garden.
The two-story home is designed in the style native to southern Spain, with Moorish touches, including an arched lounging patio, built in furnishings, and extensive tile work.
The object was to create a functional, stylish, durable family home for a young busy family.
The top floor includes the public rooms. The Living Room is anchored by an original Batchelder fireplace and opens onto a sunroom that has patio access. The circular shaped Dining Room is located in a turret with an exposed wood ceiling and windows that look onto the walled garden.
The Kitchen with its stenciled floors and deep blue cabinets and state of the art appliances reflect the home’s history and delight the chef.
Downstairs is the Master Suite. The paneled and full-cabineted bedroom allows for ample clothing storage. The Master Bath with the steam shower and garden adjacent soaking tub allows for a relaxing respite from the hectic rigors of life in Hollywood.
We were chosen as the design partners on this ground-up construction project in Santa Barbara. We created a loving family home on 3 acres of bluff front property with 10 distinct different garden segments, where the “white garden” using white flowers and marble statues is a treasure in the moon light.
The salt water swimming pool has glass mosaic tiles with a modified pattern inspired by a Versace dinner plate.
The library features bespoke teak cabinetry, designed by Johansson and hand-carved in Indonesia. The coffered ceiling replicates an antique Italian terra cotta ceiling tile. The bargello floor was created on site from walnut, cherry and ash wood.
The master bedroom is finished with silk, wood and venetian plaster surfaces.
The vaulted ceiling in the living room is decorated with frescos.
The kitchen, dining and living rooms were fitted with antique imported fire place surrounds.
This house in the vicinity of the Beverly Hills Hotel stood empty for decades and was recently restored from ground up and completely rebuilt inside by the grandson of the original owner.
Classical patterns fitting the elegant exterior were selected for the interiors.
Indoor and outdoor rooms with festive curtains and tiled floors gives a relaxed elegant feel.
A Mediterranean traditional style with a slight Art Deco inspiration was the theme for furnishings.

The Home Theater was given a cozy live theater feel with a real proscenium and upholstered walls of leather.
After scouring the Marches Puces (flea markets) of Paris, we brought home authentic French pieces like this ornate 1890's wood inlay billiards table.
In the Library, details like the antique stained glass window panels were expanded to fit into new openings with matching additions by contemporary craftsmen.
In the Master Bathroom, we used a repurposed fire surround from France and created a luxurious paneled and silk upholstered room to compliment it. The freestanding bathtub is inset in a marble surround, all sitting atop a heated micro mosaic marble floor.
A private island in the British Virgin Island is both the home of Richard Branson and rented out for private events. The resort is in need of constant maintenance due to the sea climate and intensive use throughout the year.
Johansson was able to upgrade and improve on the property three times.
All fabrications and items used were of Balinese origin, fabric weavings, teak carvings and bamboo patio furniture were produced from Johansson’s instructions.
Creation of 16th century style Hacienda with a Paseo connecting the various parts consisting of servant quarters, maintenance building, plant nursery, bedrooms, kitchen, living quarters etc.
The entire complex has a full rooftop Mirador.
We were hired to provide schematic design and design development including a preliminary model. Construction drawings were made by a local Architect. We supplied construction observation and interior design.
The building was constructed by local contractors using local materials and methods, these are self sustaining buildings, well shaded by vegetation and effectively cross ventilated with an efficient method of rain water harvesting.
This is a ground-up 2 story construction with basement in the vicinity of Descanso Gardens, where the exterior is designed modern Mediterranean while the inside was given a modern Japanese taste.
The Master Bathroom has heated ceramic floors, custom wool rug and wall paper behind the freestanding tub.
A white walled interior with dark wood floor as a background enables the minimal use of accent walls, lamps and furnishings to stand out.

A seaside home with a back yard of a freshly seeded meadow with ocean views of the Channel Islands to be enjoyed from a shaded bluff top daybed.
The one story house has a hacienda type of layout, centered around a shallow pool. The house has been fully powered by solar panels.
The object was to create a light and airy atmosphere to obtain a relaxed feeling.
The central Living Room connects the entrance to the rear patio as well as to the two wing corridors leading to allbedrooms which are facing west or east. Hallways were adorned with map images leading to the bedrooms and lit by sconces and pendant glass orbs.
The Dining Room is also off the Living Room on the south side while the adjacent breakfast room is facing the eastern morning sun.
The water feature, as seen from the front door, terminate in a turquoise front gate with a wrought iron gate and motor court beyond. The entry is flanked by large planters and wrought iron hand rails which we added for safety. The court have plenty of seating for conversation and reading.
This is a bachelor pad with many rooms. Relaxing sexy party house was the directions from the client.
A shark tank between dining and living room, many other fish tanks, a lavish sand beach entrance pool with a swim-up bar, water slide and grotto sauna was a few of the items that contributed to this.
The red lacquered wall room is the women’s downstairs powder room.
This home overlooks the Malibu Pier and the Pacific Coast Highway, perched high above it.
Stainless steel, marble and glass were softened with leather and plush fabrics. The addition of a home theater transformed this into the ultimate bachelor pad.
The bathroom mirror is on a track with wheels to enable alternate shaving and gazing.
A modern home in the penthouse of the historic El Royale building in Hancock Park. Modern style builds atop the incredible old-Hollywood details of the apartment.
In the breakfast room, we used a striking painting to add some color to the white walls. In the Master Bedroom, we created a custom closet wall from Japanese ash and rice paper mosaic. An inlay carpet was commissioned of lavender and cream wool.
The zen aspect of this house is that the layout is made as a nautilus shell and the colors chosen for the hand painted wall paper was of the clients favorite greenish yellow hue. Floor tiles, ceilings and cabinetry were made to complement it.
Built in 1957, this house had incredible mid-century details that the clean and sleek palette brings into relief. Sweeping backlit ceiling soffits are used for dramatic effect. The built-in bar features original custom bar-stools from the 50's, while rooms like the master bath were gutted and redone from the ground up. A glass mosaic tile pool designed in Mexico features swirling blue currents and a school of orange fish.
This is a garden project where the existing pool was sad looking with a brick lining and oversize appearance, cutting off the connection to the tennis court. We were hired to improve these aspects.
We added a tennis pavilion on the corner of the court and placed an oval pool within the confines of the existing, surrounded with garden plants of the client’s liking. The heating of the pool was assisted by a black spaghetti cord wall at the end of the court, which also served to dampen the bounce of the balls. A win win win project.
This Beachwood Canyon garden flows from day to night seamlessly, weather it is a lively afternoon pool party, a pizza party for 30, a wedding or a romantic solitary evening under the stars, this client can entertain in a casual dreamy setting.

The scope was an addition of Children’s room, stair and bath with remodel of Master bedroom and bath plus Family Room, Living Room and Entry. This became a symphony of wooden wainscots, wood floors, painted walls, tile and marble counters. Stained Worthwood flooring was used for the Kitchen & Family room.
Perched on a hillside in Hollywood, we created a cozy home for a busy actor. We created a flexible guest room/home office with a swiveling bowling alley desk that can be pushed up against the wall to make room for visitors. The rotating gears underneath were sourced from the rustic Apex Salvage yard in the San Fernando Valley.
